It’s been a while since I wrote a post about volunteering, but it’s something I feel very strongly about.
Ever since I was a young girl, I’ve volunteered my time for many of the worthy causes out there – visiting senior citizens in their nursing home, raising money to fund programs that support underprivileged youth, and participating in organizing a day long celebration of genealogy and culture.
And this past weekend, I was fortunate enough to volunteer for Pints for Pups benefiting the Silicon Valley Pet Project and supported by the South Bay Beer Hounds. This fundraiser combined art, ceramics, beer, and animals to great success.
I worked the entry booth but found time to take breaks to drink beer and buy this volcano tiki mug for my Hawaiian tiki mug collection:
So it comes as no surprise to the people who know and love me that I am volunteering my time at the Center Camp Café as a barista – a skill I picked up working in coffee shops when I was in college.
Each shift is 4 hours and you’re asked to take 3 shifts during the week at Burning Man.
I figure it’ll be a lot of fun and I’ll get to meet A LOT of new people – after all, how many burners need to get their coffee fix during the day and at night?
What’s better than serving coffee to people in costumes while wearing a costume myself? And it’ll give me something specific to do during the week I’m there.
Sure, there is the potential for it to interfere with me exploring Black Rock City and I’ll have to work around my volunteer shifts with The Lost Penguins, but I’M EXCITED ABOUT THIS!
Let’s just hope they select me for the team!
