Burning Man 2015 vs Burning Man 2016

R-evolutionBurning Man is ALMOST here and I am getting really excited about making the trip to Black Rock City.

It feels like just a few weeks ago I was suffering through Burning Man 2015.

Nothing went as planned for my burn last year.

I got ditched then dumped.

So I’ve made the executive decision this year to NOT PLAN A THING.

Oh sure, I know I’ll hang out at Ali Bar-Bar getting my drink on with friends.

And I’ll hit up Retro Frolic to get my Cock Sucking Certification.

And the Sauna Dome is a definite.

But everything else? It’s all up in the air.

If you know me, then you know that this is HUGE.

Because I’m a planner. Literally. IRL. My job is event planning.

Last year I took 16 travel bins with me with all my gear. This year I have 6 bins.

What a difference a year makes.

Since I’m not into EDM, I’ve gotten a few tips from friends on where to go to dance to 70s, 80s, and 90s tunes.

And, of course, I want to see art.

Lots and lots of art.

I also want to visit the Temple.

This year I plan to watch it burn.

Last year I was discouraged to attend the Temple burn.

And I deeply regret staying behind.

The bottom line is I BASICALLY CAN’T FUCK UP THIS BURN because nothing will make it as bad as last year.

Although I just found out my lover won’t be attending this year.

Sad face.

Regardless, it’s going to be a great burn.

They say the playa provides and I think this year, it’ll give me the exact experience that I need.

The universe has a way of working out like that.

Burning Man meets Vitruvian Man

Last year, I commissioned a handmade journal from Misty over at malistah on etsy.

I wanted something special to chronicle my Burning Man experiences in.

Sadly, my journal was filled not with wonderous stories of adventures and fun but of heartache, loss, and solitude.

So I’m ditching that journal this year and I’ve commissioned Misty to make another one.

I simply LOVE her handmade journals, and while they’re not inexpensive, they are works of art, worthy of capturing and memorializing the stories of Burning Man.

So for 2016 what does one create with da Vinci as a theme?

Steampunk, of course.

Turns out there’s not so many Steampunk type da Vinci fabrics out there for the book cover.

Except this Vitruvian Man in bright pants.

canvasPerfect! I said.

It’s like Burning Man meets Vitruvian Man!

At first Misty was hesitant about the colors, which she referred to as psychedelic.   But I assured her that I would be adorned quite psychedelically myself.

So we have a cover fabric and a theme – psychedelic Steampunk!

I know it sounds odd but I think it’s going to turn out spectacular!

Just like Burning Man 2016.

After the rain. . .

The power was out in my house so I was sitting on the couch talking with Krush via the light of a lantern.

I confessed to him that I’m really feeling rainbows as a theme for this Burning Man.

After the rain (my shitty 2015 burn) there is always some sun (a good 2016 burn, hopefully) to make a rainbow.

The imagery is not lost on me.

So I’ve bought a rainbow light up tutu:

And I just bought some rainbow aviator sunglasses:

sunglassesI wanted Krush’s opinion on which backpack to buy – a pale furry drawstring backpack or a bright, vibrant furry backpack.

He laughed at me.

I’m not sure if he was laughing at the idea of me wearing rainbows or the absurdity of our dimly lit conversation.

But he selected the vibrant backpack. And so I bought it.

Trust me, I plan to wear regular clothes at Burning Man. And I plan to wear some other costumes at Burning Man.

But for me, the light at the end of my crappy 2015 tunnel is creating rainbows.

So I’m going to wear them.

And here’s some other stuff I’ve been eyeballing:

Dreaming of Burning Man

the manSo I’m pretty much resigned to the fact that I’m not going to Burning Man 2016.

I’m still a little traumatized from 2015. I can’t look at pictures without feeling this immense sadness in me.

So how would I feel if I went back?

I’m not sure.

In any case, despite this, my psyche seems compelled to make me think about it. In the last week, I’ve had three vivid dreams about Burning Man and each time, I had the distinct thought, “oh yeah, how could I have even THOUGHT I didn’t want to go back to Burning Man?!”

In the first dream, there was a full size ice cream bar on the playa passing out scoops of ice cream.

Yeah, TOTALLY REALISTIC.

In another dream I was wearing a full length pink tutu ball gown and walking the streets of Black Rock City handing out lube to passers by.

Hmmmm.

But even WEIRDER, I had a dream that I RAN INTO MY PARENTS AT BURNING MAN. And the playa had it’s own Costco.

So there you have it.

Maybe I’ll go. Maybe I won’t.

Jury is still out.

But if my dreams have anything to say about it, it looks like I want to go back.
