Mad props to Andrew Lloyd Webber, Lin Manuel Miranda, Pink and God knows all the other entertainers broadcasting their art over the internet during the current challenging times.
My friend Christy posted the first video, one of Andrew Lloyd Weber singing “All I Ask of You” while in isolation.
And I listened to that song all the way through.
When will I ever watch a master musician play a well-loved song again, I ask you?
Somehow (and I’m not sure how, Lin Manuel Miranda is also spreading cheer via Instagram. He posted his own video as well: Everything’s All Right from Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar:
Followed by the great one singing You’ll Be Back from Hamilton:
Heaven help me, my dorky theater-junkie musical-loving teenager is beside herself with happiness.
It’s the simple things, no?
And then of course, the incomparable Pink took to the internet with her own soulful rendition of Bob Dylan’s eternal favorite “Make You Feel My Love.”
NOTE: In the process of making this post, I discovered that Andrew Lloyd Webber and Lin Manuel Miranda are raising money for out of work artists via Broadway Cares.
Today I won the lottery.
I won the lottery at Stanford to get a free ticket to see Oprah Winfrey talk on Monday.
I’ve been getting kinda lucky lately….
I got a ticket to Burning Man
I scored two tickets to the impossibly sold-out Holi celebration at my work
I met Tejas who has been helping me with my Burning Man plans
What else could possibly go right?
I should buy a real lottery ticket, you know, just in case my luck leaks into the financial realm.
And maybe I should invest in some condoms, in case I really get lucky and meet someone special.
Call it optimism. Call it serendipity. Things just seem to be going good for me now.
The Maestro and his Maestra will be coming to Burning Man and staying in the same camp with me so I will likely get to OM a bit while on the Playa.
Did I mention that the Maestra is Tejas’ ex girlfriend?
It’s like “A Midsummer’s Night Dream” set in Black Rock City, no?
Could be a fun Burning Man with all sorts of excitement and connection.
But most of all, I’d just like to point out how lucky things have been lately for me.
And how incredibly appreciative I am for all that I have.
We all know what they are. Some of us, ahem, experience them on a regular basis.
If they last long enough you can become revirginized.
I’m deep in the middle of a sexual dry spell.
Oh sure, men have offered to “take care of it” for me, but each and every one of them has a significant other.
- The Maestro has the Maestra.
- Mystery Man has a Mystery Woman.
- And the Swinger has his Swingee.
Is it too much to ask to meet someone who is looking for a primary?
Why do I always catch the overflow but never the landslide?
This is supposed to be my landslide of good karma life, after all.
Karma needs a little help, apparently.
So my New Year’s resolutions are:
- Flirt every day, even if it’s with the bagger at the grocery store.
- OM 4-6 times a week, more if possible.
- Get out and hike, mountain bike, kayak and embrace the outdoors.
- Say yes to invitations to do things with friends.
- Ask someone out once a month. Try not to be too saucy or too shy about it.
- Join at least two new clubs – fishing and beer making sound promising.
- Make sure to spend time maintaining the friendships I already have.
- Stop monitoring my POF, Match, and OK Cupid profiles. Nothing good is coming of those.
- Celebrate myself by doing something nice for myself once a week (at least, lol).
- Dance, just for fun and when there’s no music.
I think these New Years resolutions capture my quirky side and will help me to enjoy my life more fully, regardless of my revirgination status, which by the way got totally blown out of the water in between me writing this post and posting it on unblunder.
Yeah, I’m hot stuff!
