What is more iconic than the little black dress from the opening scenes of Breakfast at Tiffany’s worn by British ingenue Audrey Hepburn?
Nothing, I tell you.
The dress, designed by Hubert de Givenchy, is perfectly styled by costume designer Edith Head for the character of Holly Golightly.
I love it!

Per government order, I am sheltering in place at home with my family.
It’s quite a thing we’re going through now and I confess I am having a hard time writing with all the worry that’s shooting around in my brain.
I’m sure the same worries are floating around in your head as well so I won’t beleaguer the topic.
The bad news is that I’m stuck in a house.
The good news is that so far we are all healthy.
I scoped out Amazon for wigs yesterday, wanting to find a wig for my Latex Velma costume.
At first I thought MAYBE I could get away with something edgy – like an orange wig with brown roots:
Then I decided against it because Velma is nothing if not a slave to her geeky fashion and ombre hair is just a little too hip for that hipster.
I was going to get this:
But then I remembered that the costume I bought for Velma automatically came with a brown bob wig and glasses, so BONUS!
I just saved some money.
I’m working on an outfit for the Metamorphosis theme of Burning Man this year.
I fell in LOVE with this gorgeous light blue butterfly kimono:
Does anything represent metamorphosis more than a butterfly?
I think not.
So I bought the kimono and to go with it I have a beautiful ombre wig:
To be perfectly honest, I’m not sure how many showers I’ll get to take at Burning Man so I’m bringing wigs to cover up my ratty playafied hair.
Since I’m not planning on going naked UNDER the kimono, I’ve got a pair of white jeans shorts and a white crochet cami to go with it:
And (just to make things interesting) I have a pair of BABY BLUE antennae to wear with the outfit.
Just to show that I have indeed metamorphosized into a beautiful butterfly-woman.
I was tempted to buy little butterflies to put in my hair but MOOP.
And we can’t have MOOP!
So let’s see how long my white shorts stay white now, shall we?
Well, I did it.
I bought my Freddie Mercury costume.
Incidentally, in case you’re wondering what the hardest part about crafting this costumes is, it’s finding those freaking white track pants with the red side stripe.
Red track pants with white side stripe, no problem.
But white with red?
Not so easy.
Turns out, I had to buy baseball pants to get what I need.
I mean yes, that red stripe should be wider, but I can’t be too picky for this costume or it’ll never be completed.
I also got a lovely white t-shirt with a v-neck to go with it.
And, just to be as realistic as I can be considering I’m a blond woman with breasts and a pussy and not a Persian man from Zanzibar with chest hair and a mustache, I got some hairy accessories to go with:
Of course, this outfit would be COMPLETELY incomplete without this:
I swear, it gives me chills just thinking about slipping on this costume. I can’t wait to pair it all with the LED light up white sneakers:
They’re not quite Freddie Mercury style but they are burner style and so I’m going to wear them to complete the outfit.
Can’t wait for my birthday now and the chance to wear my costume!
It may come as no surprise to you that I am a BIG fan of etsy. Huge!
With all the burner activities and parties that come up, etsy is my go-to resource for costumes and extras. Check out some of my favorites below:
UV Reactive leggings. If I was a flow artist, I’d be all over these…
Again, with the UV reactive Cyberlox. Awesome and full of color.
Mermaid hair falls. I love these, but at $395 they’re out of my price range.
Ear cuff. Totally gorgeous. Would love to wear this to a festival. Not Burning Man safe (feathers are MOOP).
I love these earrings because they have a bit of everything thrown into them.
Rhinestone ribbon trim. For my hat.
Rainbow tutu with 60 LED lights. I bought this, I just couldn’t pass it up.
Wings. And pretty reasonable priced ones for what they are.
An awesome spring wig. Because someone is going to throw a French Renaissance party and I can’t wait to look like Marie Antionette. We share the same birthday!
Wha! Dude, this is AWESOME! A pirate hat with a pirate ship ON IT!
So you know, if you’re looking for something unique and special, there’s no better place to go than etsy. I swear the most creative artists get online there to sell their crafts and it’s mind-boggling how incredibly talented they are.
If you’re limited only by your imagination, then these artists are SOARING!
New costume, natch.
For an Angels/Demons costume party that I’ll be taking a shift bartending at.
First comes the dress.
I asked my friend Krunch to weigh in on which was more evil of the three dresses I was looking at, and he picked #2.
Then I found some evilish black wings to wear…
And all I need to do is select some horns to go with. What do you prefer?
It’s all coming together quite nicely, considering I have a long black wig to pair with the costume, since my blond hair (mistakenly) makes me look rather innocent and angelic.
I also bought some mini black sclera contact lenses. Just to make me look creepy. I wanted to get the large black sclera contact lenses but figured they’d irritate my eyes.
Pair it all with some deep red or black lipstick and a smoky eye and you’ve got yourself Michelle a la Demon!
Who wants to sin?
